Does the street have to be named for a single person, or can it be a dynamic
duo type thing? Do they have to be political types? And they don't have to
be dead either, right?

Well, there is Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (Flyte Time), in the entertainment
industry. They, along with Prince, are from Minneapolis, and have put us on
the map musically in that regard. They have a star on the Hollywood Walk of
Fame, and are hailed as the most successful production duo in the history of
contemporary music. They also do things for youth in regard to education,
staying in school, scholarships, etc. as well.

Think about the generations after us. They need inspiration, too. We want
them to walk/drive/bike etc. down the boulevard and remember something in
their recent history, too. Everything can't only be for us vintage folks.

I covered him a bit, and while Van White seemed like a nice enough guy, I
wouldn't call him a great council member. He is a fine symbol, since it took
until 1979 for this city to elect an African-American councilmember;
however, that's taken care of by White's bust in City Hall.

I have to believe we can find an more awesome African-American-Minneapolitan
to honor on what will soon be a major city street.
