The Star and Tribune is a newspaper, indeed, but it's endorsement process is
clearly one that is biased, as it should be. Every organization that engages
in endorsement has its own set of criteria that it uses to determine who it
will endorse. This process is clearly a process of bias. The Star and
Tribune, in general, has tended to endorse middle of the road candidates who
are usually blessed by the DFL which means that the endorsement criteria of
the Star and Tribune is middle of the road politics, much like the politics
of the DFL.

And on to the fallacy of unbiased reporting. It just doesn't exist folks.
Writing happens through the lens of the individual. Each individual sees the
world in a completely different way. While media sources may strive to be as
unbiased as possible, unbiased reporting is a false moniker. Every article
has a spin. You see, here's the other side of an endorsement process. Once
an organization endorses candidates they generally want to see the
candidates they endorse win. It adds credibility to their process each time
one of their endorsees takes office. I believe the Star and Tribune
purposefully used the tag 52 year old grad student, blaise blaise blaise for
Micheal Atherton specifically to conjure up certain images in the publics
mind. And, I'd even go so far as to suggest that the writer wished to create
a negative image of Michael Atherton. Imagine that? The Strib would want to
take a veiled shot at a candidate it found wanting? GOD FORBID! I'm
surprised folks around here aren't in a tizzy about party endorsements.

Cheerfully biased,

WizardMarks (is that your given name?), I think there is a qualitative
difference between a newspaper (which purports to be an ubiased source)
giving a biased opinion and a candidate commenting on another candidate.
Everyone expects candidates to be critical of one another but the press
should be held to a higher standard, outside of an editorial.

I'm not sure if Michael is helping his cause by protesting so much.
Sometimes it is best to hold yourself above your critics (when the bias is
obvious) and stay focused on the issues.
