WM: I'm not a member of any cult but the Irish Catholic Church which still claims me, astonishingly enough, but I did hit the reply button.
Thanks Wizard, I'm a member of what's been termed a cult too- the DFL.
This whole screed was uncalled for. Mr. Samuels won because Mr. Moore did not turn out the voters. Partly, it was a bitter day, partly it was a special election, both of which kept people home. That's not a new phenomenon. And the traditionally union labor Third Ward did not seem to be able to turn out the voters for Mr. Moore either.Yes it's a screed, but it's the truth- Don Samuels does not embody the values of the Democratic Farmer-Labor party and I hope the 3rd ward hasn't lost it's values. And one must admit that a lot of union folks have left the northside and the city- most of the neighborhoods where it's safe to raise children here are more expensive than the suburbs!
Mr. Samuels won fair and square and should be congratulated for his victory without the karma load of sarcasm.Agreed- as far as I know Don Samuels won fair and square, unless he has the unlikely ability to manipulate the weather.
We can hope now that Mr. Samuels will be a good council member, though even if he doesn't turn out to be stellar, he'll still be head and shoulders above some who've held a chair on the council I'm sure.Don Samuels is a good speaker and cheerleader for his neighborhood. But the 3rd ward and Minneapolis deserves better- we need a council member with vision.
So with more than two years before the next scheduled election I'll start detailing my vision for the 3rd ward. And as I believe in open source, Don or anyone else is free to steal my ideas. A few tidbits of my vision for Minneapolis:
Clean and efficient municipal power production
Creating our own rail transit network with St.Paul and suburban partners if the Republicans won't cooperate.
Working with city workers as partners in improving productivity instead of adversaries
Developing one of our unique natural advantages- the upper river
Provide low cost wireless internet access to city residents- the network already exists.
That's enough for today...

Congratulations, Mr. Samuels, nice work.WizardMarks, CentralTEMPORARY REMINDER: 1. Send all posts in plain-text format. 2.
