Margaret Hastings said, amongst other viterative comments:
The story about the people who are homeless shelter hopping for the
sake of doughnuts and coffee is absurd... If you want me to respond to why
it is absurd in detail.. I will do so in vivid detail on another post.
I am appalled that the issue continues to be about "proving that these
horrible conditions exist" when you know they do exist. So do something
about it instead of having word competitions with me.
Again I ask, where is the outrage about these conditions?
My response:
You know, Margaret, your constant insulting of everyone on the List isn't
very productive. There were several postings to the Mpls List to the effect
that there were several unfilled slots at various homeless shelters,
apparently even on very cold days. I guess your position must be that all
these other posters are lying, since you call the whole idea absurd.
Personally, I find the other posters more credible than you -- you are so
sure of yourself that I have no doubt that you would ignore any evidence
that contradicted your beliefs. However, I believe you are sincere about
the situations you discuss. So apparently there are many shelters out there
that do turn away poeple every night. My guess is that the full and
not-so-full shelters are in different areas of the city. Probably worth
some more discussion about time and place of these different shelters, or
are these just pissing contests? I've read several good ideas on the List
about ways we could add to indoor slots for the homeless. I also believe
there are ways there could be safe "camping" in the city, that Minneapolis
should allow. So you can bitch and moan and be outraged about the issue, or
you can discuss the issue and help come up with solutions. Whether
discussions on the List will result in any action is another story, but it
has to be more effective than constant whining.
