There's a large difference between what Hennepin County claims my house is
valued at for tax purposes and what Minneapolis determined.
Is that normal or am I showing my homeownership naivete? Can I choose to pay
the lesser?!?!

Huh? What is this about?
All over the state, including here in Hennepin County, it is the County Assessor who sets the valuation of property for property tax. The city of Minneapolis doesn't have any such department, it is all done over at the County building. Could you explain what you mean, Jill?
