WM: Finally, someone points out the key. Yes, it was the 4th estate who contributed a lot of space in racism to the hoo-hah around Herron's charges and conviction. Their biggest error was in not making the link to the FBI's institutionalized-by-J-Edgar racism. Not one questioning word to the FBI which fed the press partial quotes from Herron. The most glaringly obvious was quoting Herron as saying, 'yes, I did marijuana....' A phrase, and the 4th estate laid down like a dog and let the FBI scratch it's tummy. The rest of the quote was "twenty years ago."More evidence of the racist nature of Minneapolis, especially in its press.
Until you understand the racism, Herron looks a right blighter. When you see the racism, you have to look for another reason to have spotlighted Herron at that moment in time. (The taped conversations with Sabri were three years old, that's why he is still in court futzin' around.)
Ultimately Herron's downfall, along with the deaf ear mistakes being made by SSB and Cherryhomes and Campbell, brought down the DFL in Mpls. Why, three years after the events, did the FBI feel that May of an election year was the time to organize a sting? Who stood to gain? (And don't jump in and shout RT! That dog won't hunt.)
