People,
What Venessa is talking about is a deffered loan program that Hawthorne did
as part of our NRP Full Step Plan. This money was available to all
Homeowners, in Hawthorne. There were several different ways of qualifing to
get the loans. One was a dollar for dollar matching grant. We also have
another set of Deffered loans for Absentee Owners in which there is still
money available. So no this was not only available to the poor. Besides
staying in your house for five years you also, have to volunteer two hours a
month doing something in the neighborhood. One of my retired neighbors is
mowing lawns for people who need this kind of help on our block. It helped
us eliminate the asbestos in our house by getting rid of the old original
octopus furnace and duct work that was coated with it. So this money
indirectly helped everyone in this case by eliminating a health hazard that
could effect everyone if not disposed of properly. Then the furnace was
replaced with a much more efficient new one. So we are now using less gas
than before also.

Hyperbole. Vanessa was talking about wanting to stay in her neighborhood -
she wasn't suburb-bashing (I assume she means her neighborhood over other
city 'hoods, too). Also, I doubt we're the only municipality in Minnesota
with deferred home loans for the poor and those in poor
neighborhoods....some might even be STATE programs, passed during years of
Republican, suburban legislative power.

The list worse for Minneapolis than Murderapolis? I'd call it inflammatory
if I wasn't chuckling so hard. There are days when the list is worse for my
life than a bad tuna sandwich, but I think that's about the extent of the
harm.
