Mark Anderson replies: Last I heard, these big boxes only survive if PEOPLE shop there. And isn't a democracy supposed to be about the rule of the majority? Instead we get this elitist prattle dressed up in populist language. Go ahead and spend extra money on supporting small service oriented stores if you want. But spare us this moralistic pap about improving the city. And God save us if you use the Mpls City Council to serve this small store crusade. Like most people, I try to spend as little as possible on my cheerios and lawn chairs. There are plenty of other things I'd rather spend my money on. Economies of scale in wholesaling and retailing is one of the reasons our society is much richer than 100 years ago -- it's a very good thing in my mind. And it's the inner city residents in poverty that need this retailing the most -- since they may not have transportation available to go beyond their high-priced local (usually small) stores. Mark V Anderson Bancroft TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1. Don't feed the troll! Ignore obvious flame-bait. 2. If you don't like what's being discussed here, don't complain - change the subject (Mpls-specific, of course.) ________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
