The biggest problem with the integrated educational system is that we used the wrong policies to desegregate the schools in the 1960's and 70's. We thought it was just fine to pluck children of color from segregated concentrated neighborhoods and ship them all over town to achieve a false sense of racial integration.WM: I'd go farther and say that integrating the school system was a way of avoiding integration while appearing to support it. If the goal is an integrated society, then we would have had to integrate neighborhoods. In the absence of real integration we have horsed around with failing policies, spent tons of money, and still have to contend with the unaddressed issues.
