Why use the pejorative "raving gun nut"? Who exactly are you referring to? Any one who believes they have a need for armed defense of their person, property or business?
I wasn't particularly in favor of liberalized concealed carry, but now that it's law, the sky hasn't fallen, and all those shootouts haven't occurred between commoners.
No need to be mortified of your fellow tax-paying, law-abiding, gun owning citizens.
