I'm surprised at Dean's comment that no sign will keep those upstanding, law-abiding permit holders from bringing their guns in. Really? The ones I've talked to always say they honor those signs. Are you saying that permit holders don't respect other people's property rights? I don't believe it.
How about this:
Take the signs down. If some (law breaking) fool wants to bring a gun into a restaurant, store, bar, church, etc. Ain't no sign (or lack of carry permit) gonna stop 'em.

Moviegoers and restaurant diners in other states have been wounded in accidental shootings.
Moviegoers and restaurant diners have also been injured (and sometimes killed) by cars hitting the buildings, slipping on wet bathroom floors, choking on their food, etc. What exactly is your point? That people occasionally get hurt (or die) due to accidents? I agree.

This past weekend in St. Paul, a 21-year-old security guard and handgun permit holder tried to prevent property theft and ended up allegedly shooting somebody by accident.
This person would have had no problem getting a permit under the old law since it was a work related need. If the media reports are correct (shooting the victim in the back as he ran away) the guy should be arrested and prosecuted â permit or no permit.

As I've said before, I'm a lot happier seeing an ugly sign than I am sitting for hours in a theatre wondering if somebody next to me is going to drop his gun.
You might want to relax and take a deep breath.... Law abiding, tax paying, peaceful people with carry permits should not be your primary concern.

I happen to agree with the Wedge's original position. Let's take the signs
down. Now before you hit your reply key I should inform you that I'm NOT a
raving gun nut and in fact I am as mortified about conceal and carry as the
next guy but I really have to question the efficacy of those signs (Hennepin
County Government shooting anyone?) and the fact that they are just plain
ugly. My absolute worst favorite sign is on the the doors of the Orpheum
theatre. Here you are, two $50-$60 tickets in your hand, dressed to the
nines, just had a good meal downtown, excited about the show you are about
to see, and what's the first thing when you enter the theatre? Those damn
gun signs. Take the signs down. If some fool wants to bring a gun into a
