My main objection to the legislation is that it would encourage more people to buy guns and as such the chance of these weapons being stolen from the permit holders and ending up in the hands of criminals would increase.
Barb, I agree, that is a valid concern. I'm also not aware of any statistics on this issue â but if there are any, both sides will have their own interpretation...
Of the small sample of people that I know who obtained a permit under the new law, none of them bought a new gun specifically to carry. And due to safety and financial reasons all of the gun owners I know tend to keep them locked up when not in their immediate possession.
Unfortunately, criminals always seem able to obtain weapons regardless of what laws are passed to prevent it.
