The big question: are they as reliable and efficient? Would they be as

I have seen nothing to convince me Waste Management is the Better
choice.
Is there anyone on the list who prefers Waste Management?

Thanks,
Scott Vreeland

I'm not sure if Jim Berstein is saying he knows people who like the mission and commitment of Waste Management or Eureka. It could be interpreted either way. Care to clarify, Jim?

I personally despise Waste Management. There's plenty of evidence that Waste Management is one of the worst kinds of companies. They've been involved in all kinds of undesirable activity: unfair trade, scandal, illegal dumping, and even, if memory serves correctly, involvement with organized crime.

Waste Management has been repeatedly investigated and fined -- in fact, they are the company fined most often in the U.S. for breaking environmental laws. They have been convicted of price fixing and, most apropos to the current situation, bid rigging. On January 15, 1998, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Waste Management was fined $1,000,000 (one million dollars) in federal court for illegally controlling competition among Broward County, Florida garbage haulers.

Waste Management has been fined for keeping double sets of books to deceive authorities. In a trial in Illinois, a Waste Management executive admitted under oath that the firm keeps special accounts for giving "promotional" gifts to politicians. They have been fined for selling PCB-contaminated oil to rural people as dust suppressants and to homeowners as heating fuel. And as reported in the Times-Picayune, New Orleans largest newspaper, Waste Management has even used death threats to intimidate public officials.

And that's just in the U.S. As an international company, they have been similarly fined in Great Britain, Australia, Canada, and other countries.

There is no question that between Waste Management and Eureka, that Eureka is the better choice by far.
