One of the people who works in one of my assigned neighborhoods for NRP takes the bus from Brooklyn Center. She rides her bike some days but it's quite a ways from Brooklyn Center to South Minneapolis by bike and a little cold right now not to mention slushy and dirty.
One of the neighborhood volunteers borrowed her car to her so she can get to work. Once again I am happily amazed by the ingenuity of neighborhood volunteers and their willingness to find a solution to problem that crop up. However, this generosity is only temporary as I believe the generosity of hundreds of others is temporary. I am sure there are people all over the city that are loaning their cars to people or driving them. Hardly a situation they wish to make permanent or even long lasting. Mr. Taxpayer League, maybe the reason you aren't hearing loud outcries yet is because we have a lot of really nice people in this city that are willing to go the extra mile to help out their fellow man. You could take a lesson from us. If you would climb outside of your self centered thinking long enough to consider the plight of your fellow man you would realize that we really do need public transportation. Not all of us got a brand new SUV from the George Bush get an SUV free tax credit program. Some of us actually have to buy our own cars and pay the entire amount ourselves. We don't get to write them off of our taxes. The rest of us have to take the bus. 60% of the Phillips neighborhood to be exact.
