It wasn't too awfully long ago that 2 street officers were accused by a citizen of a very heinous act-sodomy. Both officers were suspended w/ pay while the accusation was investigated-by an outside party.
An officer almost lost his life at the hands of another officer. Shouldn't we place the same importance on it? Or, do we just trust that everyone's telling the truth?

I think this is a false comparison - because the officers involved were NOT the ones who were accused of shooting Ngo - but rather were high ranking officers in the department who worked on the departmental investigation of the Ngo shooting.

David Brauer writes:

And for everyone playing identity politics, please remember that the
department didn't turn over a key memo in an Asian-American officer's
lawsuit. There should be at least as much outrage over that as anything
that's happened in this case.

EY: I don't see people saying this shouldn't have been investigated. I also think that trivializing all concerns about McManus's alleged misogyny as "identity politics" isn't right.

Certainly when this appointment was first announced, Rybak came under alot of criticism that his administration is behind the curve on appointing or promoting women to high level positions within City Government. I think this is still a fair criticism of Rybak.

I also agree with Brauer that Rybak should come forward and confirm or deny on the record the statements attributed to him by Carlson what he said to Carlson and Martin.

Brauer writes:

That said, I wonder what would have happened had Deputy Chief Gerold said,
upon learning of the investigation, "I fully believe I have done nothing
wrong, but understand that especially in the case of police power, we must
be held to a high standard. I respect that outside law enforcement
professionals are assessing the facts. I will await their investigation and
comment on the results when it has been completed."

EY: Well that's 20/20 hindsite. I rarely see politicians, journalists or others react this way when they feel their reputations are being challenged.

In this case there is a battle for public opinion being waged - and Brauer's suggested response would have Gerold avoid defending herself in the battle for public opinion.
