Politicians or journalists are not law enforcement professionals who
regularly conduct such criminal investigations themselves.

No; re-read my suggestion at the top of this message. Perhaps it's too
subtle, but I'm suggesting waiting strategically to court public opinion ("I
will await their investigation and comment on the results when it has been
completed,") not avoiding a fight.
By taking the high road and having enough confidence to await the facts, she
would have looked more professional and, I believe, swayed more of the
public. Instead, her legal/p.r. campaign, while successful, has elements of
hypocrisy given her chosen profession.
