It is entirely possible that Brett is being set up, and that the anger of branch members is being misdirected from those who are primarily responsible for what is going on. If the April 17 letter is authentic, it was probably written to shift the blame and cover the tracks of individuals who are very high up in the organization. The branch leadership has been operating outside of the NAACP constitution and bylaws for the several years. The NAACP's contract with the state to operate Parent Information Centers, for example, was opposed by the branch membership. Numerous decisions have been made without ratification by the branch membership, including the hiring of consultants by Al Gallmon and Brett Buckner for the parent information centers and the branch. Complaints about that kind of conduct have been ignored or brushed aside by the national office. Whether allegations of improper handling of funds have any foundation, we will know if the branch financial books are ever audited (It should be done annually, according to the bylaws, but hasn't been done since 1998, when Leola Seals was the branch president). -Doug Mann, King Field REMINDERS: 1.
