I thought the appointment of Ms. Jayne Baccus Khalifa, as Civil Rights
Director for the city of Minneapolis, was a done deal. The Mayor made the
announcement several days ago didn't he? A Citizen Advisory Committee was
involved in developing important criteria to be considered for the position,
they interviewed finalists and worked with the Mayor in the process. Ms.
Baccus Khalifia seems to have excellent credentials/experience for the
position. So, what's the problem?
She wasn't the candidate that "the community" was supporting, so now "the community"
is upset, at least according to Mr. Hodges' previous post. And, while the mayor has
appointed Ms. Baccus Khalifa to the position, there will still be a confirmation
process with the City Council. So the opportunity to kvetch and make her life
miserable remains.
