David, you ask a good question. One I have been
thinking of for days. I think there is somehow a
perception out there that this position is focused
only on communities of color. I don't think that is
true. I think this position focuses on all protected
classes. Besides ethnicity, woman, physically
challenged, mentally challenged and seniors are also
protected classes. That being said, I would much
rather see the prospective candidate engage the full
community on a regional basis as opposed to segmenting
into the protected classes. 

I would like to see the Mayor's office bring  this
candidate through the same sort of community
engagement he did when Chief McManus was appointed as
Police Chief. If this is a new policy in determining
final endorsement of the Mayor's appointees than the
policy should be applied across the board to all
department head appointments.
