Because I get the list in digest form, I have no way of knowing whether list members have commented on the Basim Sabri story in the Metro section of the Strib. The story begins: "The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday struck down a challenge by developer Basim Sabri, who sought to dismiss (sic) a federal indictment accusing him of trying to bribe former City Council Member Brian Herron." The verdict was unanimous, which, in itself, may be the most interesting aspect of this precedent-setting case. Sabri is apparently now likely to be required to defend himself against the bribery charges in a Minneapolis court. There has been some talk that these original charges were widened as Sabri pursued his appeals through the federal courts.
It's worth discussing. Now that the case is back in local courts, I expect that County Attorney Amy Klobuchar will keep her promise to prosecute vigorously.
