What the quote from Mr. Mann, taken in the context of the article, implies
is that the Green Party is filled with Nader-haters. This is far from the
truth. Whether they support his run for president or not the vast majority
of Greens I have talked to about the issue are very supportive and
respectful of the man and his work. Many Greens in the 5th District support
Nader gaining the Green Party's endorsement while many do not. Those who do
not believe that one of the seven other choices (Sheila Bilyeau, Peter
Camejo, David Cobb, Paul Glover, Kent Mesplay, Carol Miller, and Lorna
Salzman ) or no endorsement is the best choice. Unlike with the Dems and
Reps, the race is too close to call and will not be known until the national
convention in Milwaukee June 24-27. Incidentally, I feel that Doug's support
for Nader actually had very little to do with his not receiving the
endorsement.

To make sure everyone is clear, the necessary threshold to receive the Green
Party endorsement in 2002 (as well as this year) was 2/3 NOT '50% plus 1'.
Doug Mann did not receive the nomination in 2002 even though his support was
greater than this year. While Doug's statement may be factually true it is
very misleading in that someone not familiar with the rest-of-the-story
could draw the wrong conclusion. Doug has sought the Green Party nomination
a number of times without success. Making misleading statements like this in
a public forum are not likely to improve his appeal with Green Party
members.
