- mentioned something that strikes me as an entertaining coincidence:
Tomorrow, Saturday, June 19, 2004 marks the 50th anniversary - to the day - of the end of the old streetcar system. (MTM will be offering $0.10 rides all day to commemorate the cost of a ride in 1954). That means that we will be starting up our new light rail line exactly 50 years and 1 week after the old system shut down.
As a Powderhorn resident, I can't wait for light rail rides to the airport and to all the restaurants and bars downtown. I hope Minneapolitans don't settle for just a single line and leave it at that. Where would list members like to see additional lines built? Which corridor should get the next line? What would a mature light rail system look like?

P.S. If anybody knows Duane Telle, the guy quoted in today's StarTribune complaining about the noise of the light rail line at his beautiful, restored Victorian home near the 50th street station, have him contact me - I'd love to buy the place. I'm sure Mr. Telle will discover that his home's proximity to one of the line's stations actually raises it's value (just don't tell him that until after I make him an offer on his house, please). Also, I can't imagine how he can hear the light rail line over all that airplane noise down there...
