Paul I live 4 blocks from the station at 50th, and can hear the bells (although they are faint). I am looking forward to the opening of the LRT. It will bring me downtown more often as I will not have to deal with traffic or parking. I may actually shop at the MOA once in a while too for the same reason.
As for added lines, I would like several different ones. 1) Extend this line down to Burnsville or Lakeville to give those persons an easy in to downtown. 2) Connect Mpls and St Paul, as well as the East & West bank of the campus and the Amtrak station. 3) Connect North to St Cloud and South to Rochester. 4) The greenway just north of Lake street. 5) A line out toward Eden Prairie or farther would be good too. This would give us a great start toward more integrated transportation within the metro area. My own pipe dream would be for more of this to be a raised Monorail system. It would be less obtrusive to existing ground transportation, and require less right of way. Imagine a rail line right down the middle of 35W, or perhaps 394. Where would list members like to see additional lines built? Which corridor should get the next line? What would a mature light rail system look like? P.S. If anybody knows Duane Telle, the guy quoted in today's StarTribune complaining about the noise of the light rail line at his beautiful, restored Victorian home near the 50th street station, have him contact me - I'd love to buy the place. I'm sure Mr. Telle will discover that his home's proximity to one of the line's stations actually raises it's value (just don't tell him that until after I make him an offer on his house, please). Also, I can't imagine how he can hear the light rail line over all that airplane noise down there... REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
