CN:
The thing that I can't seem to swallow in this whole
debate, is why someone has the "right" to come into MY
restaurant/bar (if I had one) and tell me to change
it. How about if I (the imaginary owner) post a sign
outside - "Smoking inside - enter at your own risk!"
The owner of XYZ bar is not responsible for your
discomfort if you choose to go into to his/her smokey
establishment. Don't go.
I truly believe that no one should be forced to breath
second-hand smoke if it bothers them. I also believe,
however, that no business owner should be forced to
cater to one group of customers over another.
There are plenty of non-smoking establishments,
because a demand has arisen for them. Let the smoking
places stay too, since the demand also exists for
those.
Just as a smoker likely avoids non-smoking
establishments, non-smokers can avoid the opposite. I
think it takes a lot of gumption for one group of
people to force their preference on both business
owners and other patrons of those businesses. (i.e.
smokers) Personally responsibility is seriously
compromised with bans such as these.
