Tim Bonham Writes:
As the police captain said, "These are targeted specific murders, They're not random drive-by acts."

So the gangs are killing each other off? Good, let them. Maybe when they've killed off a good share of each other's membership, the police can move in and arrest the remainder.

Dennis Plante responds:
Probably the greatest single impact that we could have on the issue would be to find a way to confiscate the autos of the mostly suburbanite buyers of illegal narcotics. If you eliminate the demand, you eliminate the importance to the gangs of the specific piece of real estate they're fighting over. Not to mention that you're placing a huge revenue incentive in it for the City (the eventual sale of the confiscated auto). Come sit on a street corner late some Friday, or Saturday afternoon and watch how many kids from the burbs, out in their parents' car, make their stop in my neighborhood to get their drugs. It's almost as normal for them as stopping to get gas for the drive home before they continue-on to whereever it is they're going to "party".

We can't let them "kill each other-off". As long as there's a demand for the drugs, there will be economically disadvantaged young men willng to fight over the turf.
