This morning houses in my neighborhood had quite the experience. Bright
yellow water from the tap. Nasty water that left sinks with a residue when
you drained them. I suppose the City was doing something to the main, but
it was yucky to say the least. It had cleared up by tonight, but left a
foul taste after discovering it while brushing one's teeth.
Another bothersome reminder of what it is like to live in Minneapolis and
"engage in risky behavior"also occured yesterday. Some might remember Roger
Bargouthi. It was from Roger's store that RT Rybak announced he was running
for Mayor four years ago. It was from Roger's store that RT gave his
victory speech. On Sunday Roger was "engaging in Risky Behavior" of working
on his duplex at 22nd and 5th Avenue South. A strung out druggie pulled a
broken beer bottle out and demanded money or she would cut Roger's face.
Roger then "engaged in further Risky Behavior" by asking a woman bystander
to call 911. He was then slashed down the face and physically attacked,
with the woman biting him about his shoulders.
The woman bystander in her excitement kept dialing 991 instead of 911, but
fortunately the attacker was apprehended later by the police. While she was
being taken downtown the attacker told the police she was HIV positive and
was attempting to infect Roger with her bites.
Roger had his face slashed open around his eye down the entire side of his
face and around his bottom lip. Fortunately it missed his eye, but it took
hundreds of stitches to repair the damage. I told Roger he was pushing
sixty, and had a good looking wife who still thought he was handsome so to
not worry about it. He says he does not mind not being as pretty, as long
as the HIV tests come back negative.
So I guess RT Rybak is right, in Minneapolis we do not have to worry about
violent crime if we do not "engage in risky behavior". "Risky Behavior"
such as repairing our houses in the middle of the day! Perhaps though the
"Risky Business" is just living in an Inner-City Neighborhood without
adequate police protection. Of course someone will say "OH, statistics say
it's not that bad", but I doubt if statistics are much worth to Roger. He
KNOWS the probability that he was attacked is about 100%! Roger had been a
staunch RT supporter in the last election, could it be that the results of
his "Risky Behavior" might just have colored his opinions for the up coming
race?
