What do gun safes have to do with stray bullets? And how will a gun safe
assist me (a law abiding citizen) in self-protection? People who wish to do
me harm are unlikely to allow me the courtesy of opening my gun safe so as I
can grab my legal firearm to protect myself.
Those who would oblige the law by locking up their guns (if such a law was
passed) are not the problem. Criminals are the problem. Until the criminal
problem is solved, please offer me the opportunity to protect myself.
The only connection would be that some of the guns that
criminals have were obtained by stealing them from gun owners. If
such guns had been kept in secure gun safes, your average burglar is
not skilled enough to open such a safe in the time they have
available, so this would result in fewer guns being available to criminals.
I'm not sure that would affect things much; there are plenty
of gun shows & other places criminals can obtain their guns. In
fact, it might just raise the prices a bit, so criminals would have
to do more crimes to get the money for a gun.
The main advantage I see for gun safe is to keep curious
young children in the family from playing with the guns. That would
save a few kids lives each year. That's the main reason that my
family members DO have gun safes for their guns.
