I NEVER, NEVER suggested that Bob Fine advocated "lining the Chain of
Lakes with high rises"! While Bob Fine is responsible for a series of
Park Board blunders, this is not one of them.

The ad in question shows a picture of Lake Calhoun taken on the south
end, looking north in the approximate position of the proposed mini-mall
or "Calhoun Sailing Village" as Mr. Fine likes to call it. It clearly
shows three tall buildings on the north shore including Calhoun Beach
Club and Dan Towers. The other picture shows a lake with three tall
buildings and a marina development in the foreground.

The purpose of the ad - as all can see - is to show what Lake Calhoun's
south shore currently looks like and what it would look like with a
"five building complex including three retail/concession buildings, an
event center, and a sailing school/yacht club building" which is what
was proposed and how it is described in the June 6, '05 article by Scott
Russell in the Skyway News (a sister publication of the Southwest
Journal).

I strongly oppose this development! Mr. Fine originally supported it
but said last summer he was now "neutral" which is what I have
consistently pointed out in my literature. Mr. Fine is now quoted in
the current edition of the Southwest Journal as being "uncommitted"
about the project. While Mr. Fine prefers to be "neutral" or
"uncommitted" about it, I will never support any retail, commercial,
residential development on the shores of Minneapolis lakes!

The required disclaimer ("Prepared and paid for . . .) was inadvertently
left off the ad in question and I take full responsibility for that.
The rest of Mr. Fine's accusations are - like his record on the Park
Board - without merit.

Here are a few more facts from:
http://www.swjournal.com/articles/2005/10/20/news/news13.txt

On Oct. 12, Fine filed a complaint against Bernstein with the state
Office
of Administrative Hearings, saying Bernstein's literature contained
false or
distorted statements of Fine's position, and that a Bernstein ad in the
Journal was deceptive, lacking the appropriate disclaimers.

A probable cause hearing was set for Oct. 18, after this issue went to
press.

In part, Fine's complaint said Bernstein distorted his position on the
proposed Lake Calhoun Sailing village, suggesting Fine supported lining
the
Chain of Lakes with high-rises. Fine said he has never supported such
structures.

Bernstein said his literature and ads were fair, and that Fine had not
opposed the Sailing Village. Bernstein called the complaint a sign of
desperation.
