Just as an aside, and solely for my benefit: this is the first time I've
ever seen used the term "Transportation Justice." I've heard of "social
justice" (though I'm not sure what that means) and "economic justice" and
maybe even a couple of other "justice"s. But "Transportation Justice" is a
new one to me. What does it mean?
Did someone slip another justice in on us sometime, without letting us know?
In the future, could someone please announce new justices when they come
out, so people like me can be "justice aware" and give each new "justice"
its due justice.

This is critically important. At least 25% of
Minneapolis households have no car at all. Some by
choice, many due to poverty, a handful due to not
knowing how to drive, others being unable to drive due
to disability, and few others who have had their
license privilidges revoked whether due to driving
under the influence or other reasons.
All these folks have to get to and from work, the
store, etc. and run all the same errands as everyone
else.
As someone who has lived an autofree lifestyle by
choice with relative ease being located among all the
buslines crisscrossing downtown, it's definitely true
that those most dependent on transit due to reasons
other than choice(poverty, disability, etc.) are being
hardest hit by the cuts to service both in terms of
where the cuts are taking place. This includes the
disparate impact on nightshift workers and those who
get off work late at night with cuts in evening hours
and overnight hours.
We should not only strive for transportation options
that get people out of cars but for transportation
options that provide greater transportation equity and
raise the quality of life for all of our residents
including those who lack other transportation options.

This is very important. Michael is right on when he
argues for
public mass transport over single-passenger
vehicles.

Correction: the state _forced_ Metro Transit to cut
service by not
adequately funding the service. Pawlenty vetoed a
transportation
bill that would not only have avoided the cuts in
service but would
have allowed the system to grow significantly.
