Perhaps the word "Threshold" is also worth looking
for in the docs.
Either of these approaches can make the measurement
and recording part of MRTG achieve some side effects.
OTOH, it may be overkill to load every measurement pass
with work which may only occasionally be displayed.
I'ld suggest the OP think about whether a solution can
be found on the visualization side, requiring only
on-demand work.
