haven't seen any other technEds happening around Singapore for the past 2 years
on configmgr and its connected objects..many professionals working on Configmgr
here though.

Yeah, that's another thing. Getting to network with our International peers.
You can learn a lot through diversity, different cultures and the ways others
think about things and solve problems. Those
experiences make us better professionals. If there is a TechEd in other parts
of the world how will we get this experience? Not to sound corny, but we need
to persist a Mecca for all System Center professionals from every corner of the
world to attend.

Hello Michael ! - I had attended TechedIN however never find it very useful as
MMS videos (from a pure ConfigMgr perspective). Can Microsoft ensure that
TechEd s across the world the same quality, content and speakers? I can't even
assume that
this is possible. Also, Unlike MMS, it would be very difficult to get the
budget approved for TechEd NA if I'm in India.

Not sure I agree with that. We routinely sign up external IT pro speakers

to speak on a variety of real-world topics. It’s always an interesting
challenge to balance deeper product group-run sessions with these real-world IT
pro sessions, but I think we do a decent job of it.

Will there be a different balance between the two events? Yes, you’ll see many
more Microsoft people at TechEd (including me
J) who likely won’t attend the DevConnections event. You’ll see a huge event
at TechEd with
an endless variety of sessions. (Think it was hard to choose between sessions
at MMS? TechEd expands that by an order of magnitude. Of course we carefully
schedule tracks of content so you can follow that track all week long.)

My personal disclaimer: I work for Microsoft and believe TechEd is the best
Microsoft-focused event anywhere, and you’ll never convince me otherwise

Really what you'll miss is peer sessions. TechEd is largely built on sessions
that have been vetted to ensure the proper messaging is made available. Early
days of MMS
it was all about how products worked in the real world, not how they were
developed to work. One thing I've heard this week (from Microsoft folks no
less) is that people like IT/Dev Connections because its a conference with a
User Group feel. And, it will
remain that way, even though we're expanding for next year. Its very personal,
allowing attendees direct access to speakers and experts.

My question would be what would I "miss" if I went to TechEd vs IT/Dev
Connections or something like it? I started going to MMS in 2009. What I
would like
to see is more of a side by side comparison of the two. Full disclosure, I
have never been to TechEd so my frame of reference is MMS ans SQL PASS.

I know I cannot go to both so this question is a good one!

What I’ve not heard here is what the general thinking is around this decision
to pull MMS into TechEd... regardless of the city or timeframe, what are your
thoughts
on this? Would you go? Would you prefer something totally new, framed like the
MMS of “old”, put together by the community at large?

We also have a lot less drive through daiquiri joints here in Houston than New
Orleans does, but we’ve got way better Mexican food, and I think we’ve got them
beat
 this year in mosquitos/sq ft.

Sorry, one more OT posting and then I’ll stop

Houston is a huge city. It contains a large number of “true Texans”, but they
are outnumbered substantially by normal “outsiders.” And those “true Texans”
are generally
 still nice people.

Downtown Houston could pass for downtown LA. On second thought, maybe that’s
not such a good comparison – maybe it would be better to say that it smells
better than
 New Orleans…

-Michael

All that applies to Vegas also, with less heat, but, how do I say that, hmm,
there are less Texans there
J

I’ve met two from Fort Worth I work with, they are nice, but they do fulfill
the cliché…

I liked New Orleans. I’m from Europe, Texans are a rather big culture shock..

I lived in Houston for three years. There’s a chance the weather will be
pleasant in May. There’s also a chance that it’s above 40 Celsius
J And thunderstorms are likely. It’s about the same, weather-wise, as New
Orleans, Orlando, and Atlanta. On the positive side,
the food in Texas is really good – New Orleans might be better (except for
barbecue), but Houston is right up there.

Book your hotels early if you want to stay downtown
J Otherwise, you’ll get to experience the famous Houston traffic first-hand.

Thanks,

-Michael

There was little overlap in the attendees for both events, so it was convenient
to use the same content for IT pros attending both events.

While in earlier years the number of sessions at TechEd allocated to System
Center, MDT, community, etc. was smaller than at MMS, the last few years it’s
been pretty
much the same session allocations. So there hasn’t really been any “watering
down” for TechEd.

We’ll let everyone know when the TechEd call-for-content goes live. It was
interesting last year because the session submissions were rather lopsided: A
few topics
had lots of interest, a lot of topics has light interest. So people got
grumpy when their sessions were declined, while others had multiple sessions
accepted. My suggestion: Branch out and submit topics for broader topics
J

-Michael

TechEd has had the same MMS content for a couple years already. Microsoft
started developing unified slide decks which are vetted to ensure their
messaging is always in sync.
