It’s nice to revisit older blog posts since many continue to have relevance
today.

I was researching another capability of AI recently and came across the
following statement on this page
(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg681998.aspx)

License reconciliation limitations
The reconciliation of the quantity of installed software titles to the quantity
of purchased software licenses is calculated by using a comparison of the
license quantity specified by the administrator and the quantity of installed
software titles collected from Configuration Manager client hardware
inventories based on the schedule set by the administrator. This comparison
does not represent a final Microsoft conclusion of the license positions. The
actual license position depends on the specific software title license and
usage rights granted by the license terms.

So I wonder, of those who are using AI, have you used the generated information
to guide activities such as license true-ups, optimization of deployed apps, or
audit responses? Even though Microsoft provides this basic AI capability, they
don’t place much weight on its output.

Yes, I work for a vendor. I’m not going into a sales pitch, I’m just curious
to hear your thoughts on OOB SCCM AI.

That's it! Thanks.

This blog explains how I am getting my license info into CM.

My new site is http://systemcenteradmin.com but there's not much there yet.

I really need to repost all of my blogs on my own website. I can't ever find
them on myitforum.com anymore. I know there's a URL that will take me to all of
my posts but I can never find it.

John,
Please, can you share your blogpost link?

That's true. You cannot import multiple files. You have to consolidate them
into one. Each time you import it overwrites rather than appends.

Hi Nash,
Thank you for this information.

On my case, the customer have SCCM working fine, and AI working fine also. But
when we import one EA file this overwrite the other EA file, and we have 5
E/CSV files/contracts.
Tnx

<[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>>:
ConfigMgr can import license .CSV files, as long as they are in exactly the
right format.
“Create a General License Statement Information File for
Import<http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712322.aspx#BKMK_CreateGeneralLicenseStatement>”

There are many 3rd Party Products out there such as BDNA
Normalize<http://www.bdna.com/bdna-normalize/> and 1E
AppClarity<http://www.1e.com/appclarity-software-asset-management/> which help
consolidate and normalize the asset intelligence data so it is easily matched
up with license info.

The folks at CoreTech have a nice free utility for extending the ConfigMgr
console with a tool to add/edit 3rd party license info for AI:
http://blog.coretech.dk/kea/asset-intelligence-3rd-party-software-utility/

Also, be sure to have the latest cumulative update for ConfigMgr installed, as
they often are making tweaks to support the MVLS license import stuff and the
reports.

I hope that helps,

Nash
