Hi!
A short line of info for anyone who's about to buy a ZIP drive for his/her MSX.
DO NOT BUY A ZIPplus - the new ZIP drive with SCSI _and_ parallel interface!!
===
It seems the perfect solution: you can connect it to the PC's parallel port or
connect it to the SCSI-chain on either PC or MSX. And when used on the PC's
parallel port it runs flawlessly, but...
The ZIPplus gives problems when used in a SCSI system with more than
one device! Probably, the internal termination of the ZIPplus is malfunctioning
which can result in dataloss on the other drives connected to the same SCSI-bus!
In my case, the dataloss included a corrupted partition table and destroyed
FATs.
The problem doesn't occur on MSX only, it's also present when the ZIPplus is
used on PC. When this was reported to Iomega, the manufacturer of the ZIPplus,
their only answer was an updated version of the manual which describes the
problem. NO SOLUTION IS GIVEN!
Iomega states that you should use the ZIPplus in a SCSI-setup only with the
original cable supplied with the drive (which makes it almost impossible to
connect it to any MSX SCSI interface) and with the ZIPplus as only device on
the SCSI-bus (which makes the ZIPplus really unusable on all SCSI interfaces
except MegaSCSI, because you can't set the SCSI ID of the ZIPplus to anything
but 5 or 6).
Damn, am I pissed!!! Hfl.450 down the drain :-(

PS. Anyone want to buy an almost brand-new ZIPplus? :-J
PS2. Note that this message only applies to the ZIPplus!
The original ZIP is ok (AFAIK).
