        It stands for "Discrete Cosine Transform". It's very similar to
Fourier transform, but both the image and the domain of this function are
real numbers (the Fourier may generate complex numbers when the input is
not an even function). The DCT is used in a lot of compression methods,
including jpeg and mpeg.
