The new MSX cannot keep the compatibility, but it can keep the idea of
MSX: creativity.
One difference of the MSX is that it is hybrid of gameconsole and
computer. And this computer part has very good BASIC, which pops up
every time you turn on your MSX. From the very start it made me wonder -
what can I do with it? After I had played games enough, I wanted to make
something like that myself. And it was easy with MSX - it gave me
opportunity to express my creativity.
So I think new MSX should have following qualities:
1. gameconsole/computer in one: gameconsole is for getting started,
computer is for those who are getting tired of plain gaming.
2. it should have decent graphics capabilities and graphical user
interface (BeOS maybe?).
3. there must be some kind of built-in programming environment and
graphics tools, to give oportunity for creativity. But I doubt, if this
programming environment could be 'old-style' BASIC. Maybe some
modification of Visual Basic (Microsoft, again...).
4. it should be easy to use. This means that to start a game, only thing
you have to do is just to insert CD, no installation, no directx, etc.
This may also mean, that whole operating system is in (Flash)ROM, so
that you cannot accidentally delete your C:\WINDOWS.
