I have done this by configuring my linux machine to dhcp the mvp, the router also tries, I am not sure exactly why, but the linux machine does win either because the dhcp for the router does not have all of the proper information (tftp server) or because the linux machine answers the DHCP request faster. The linux machine is only doing dhcp for the MVP's mac address, and I have the linux machine on both the routers 168.192.x.x network and on the internal private 10.x.x.x network that the MVP is dhcped on by the linux box.
