I went with VLC because I've tried several other tools such as mencoder and ffmpeg and had problems with each. Most notably, while I would get sound sync, I would get video quality degradation. High action scenes would become blocky and/or jumpy. Using VLC seems to give me the cleanest audio syncing, since that is ALL I desire. And, it's relatively quick. On the order of 4-5 minutes to audio-sync a 1hr show on my AMD S939 3800+ X2 box.

It might be an obscure card. I think I got it off ebay, but I've been very happy with it. It's pretty well supported by linuxtv drivers, and all the dvb utilities work with it. Mythtv likes it, and it seems to tune more stations than my Dvico FusionHDTV RT 5 Lite. I'm not sure if it'll do analog, but I have 3 Hauppauge PVR-150/250 for analog, so that isn't important. The card was cheaper than most other QAM capable cards I've looked at. Overall, I find it a very good value for the money. > > Your posting was about problems you were having selecting specific audio > streams from an MPEG-TS. Did you try other transcoding tools? I actually talked to the folks on VLC, and they say I can use some other modules such as the #duplicate module to filter out the streams I want. My issue is that on ToonD (Disney Tune) channel, I get Spanish and English, and the MVPMC can't deal with that situation, so I have 2 options. Either fix the MVPMC, which is proving to be difficult. Or fix the stream before the MVPMC gets it. That is much easier. > > >> What I would really like to do is figure out how to create an automatic >> transocding profile for this, so I can attach it to the card, and >> auto-magically run it against anything captured by this card. > > I'm playing with an old analog card that has no MPEG encoder hardware. > If I get it working with Myth, it'll need everything transcoded (as Myth > doesn't have an MPEG2 software encoder), so I'll be looking into this > and I can post a follow-up with the info on how it is done. What card? I have a couple of other BT878 based cards (An old pinnacle and something else). The Pinnacle tunes analog a bit "brighter", but it doesn't do digital sound, only through the Sound card link output, apparently. Since I have 3 Haupp PVR cards, I haven't gone much further, but I can offer what little help I can remember, if you need. Getting a new "hardware profile" that will can be used by the card to auto-sync the audio would be groovy for me, since everything that gets recorded off my ATSC and QAM card are out of sync on the mvpmc, and since the mvpmc is my sole front-end, getting that working correctly is what I need. If you have any pointers, or need any help, let me know and I will contribute as I can. > > -Tom > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft > Defy all challenges.
