I'm a brand new member, and had this same thing happen.

I eventually 'forced' the sub-task to show by setting the Start date
for it to 'today' - but I would be interested to hear an expert
explain what can cause this.  I'm guessing that the program decided
the priority of the item - in the absence of anything telling it the
task needed longer, had started or would take x amount of time - only
needed to display on the To-Do list at a later date.
