Follow-up Comment #7, bug #18302 (project mypaint):

It's no problem at all, I check for new updates almost daily anyway. I'll
keep testing as long as it's needed, it's easy to revert if something breaks
:)

I tested with Qt4 (using Oxygen), oxygen-gtk, nodoka-midnight, xfce-winter,
and QtCurve, and they all looked consistent, no missing highlights or
anything.

Other thoughts:

* Dragging layers worked, but the threshold to initiate seems low. It
doesn't initiate until I've dragged the first layer past two other layers.
This is especially noticeable with only two or three layers active. I don't
know if this is intentional or not.

* The left-aligned layer names seem to make it easier to tell which layer
you're interacting with when using the toggles. No hard evidence, just a
feeling from a few minutes of testing.

* It's not showing the temporary layer solo mode on layer selection. I think
I like this change: not showing it makes layer selection feel faster and more
responsive to me. May be disorienting for anyone expecting it to happen,
though.

* I'm not sure if this is is related to the change or a separate bug report:
the automatic layer numbering is re-numbering the layers on order change. So
an unnamed "Layer 1" at the bottom will become "Layer 2" when moved up one,
and "Layer 3" when moved up again. Contents move as expected but the names
don't follow. Very confusing; at first, I thought layer reordering wasn't
working at all.

* I rather miss the boldface text on the active layer. (Unrelated to
anything else: should toolbox titles be bolded? Not trying to clutter up the
bugreport but it seems like a silly thing to make a new report for)
