The EFF's job is to make it so people are not afraid to stick their head above the parapet, afraid to develop a new technology that has positive and groundshaking applications. Some people have accused us of just trying to promote a world where nobody pays for content, but that is actually orthogonal to our mission -- which involves defending free speech and the freedom to create technology. It's not a hatred of copyright. The problem is that the copyright lobbies are trying to intimidate and step on innovation in their fight to maintain their existing ways of doing business. Innovation in a most cherished area -- the technologies of communication, which are the platform upon which free speech rests. That's why we fight them. When we hear developers say, "I don't want to put in a useful feature because it might anger Hollywood and they might sue" then something has gone wrong.
