Doesn't your 30" LCD display have a VGA input? > The picture now is choppy and rather flat in colors (yes, I have tried > adjusting both the TV and the channels in Myth), so I'm wondering if I > can buy a better GPU or alter anything in my configuration to achieve a > better picture quality. IMHO, Don't waste your time trying to use the S-Video output of a video card. While I haven't seen them all, the ones I have seen and used (both ATI and Nvidia) have been seriously lacking. To call that DVD quality would be a flat out lie. > The machine (combined frontend and backend) has a Athlon 64 2800+ and > it's showing a rather high load while doing anything like XVID or live > TV, so this might actually be a problem unless the choppyness (is that > even a word?) is in fact caused by the GPU... I am sure it has NOTHING to do with your CPU speed, but everything to do with the signal path and scan converter of your video card. Very few people mention it, but a standalone scan converter should work. I couldn't begin to recommend one as there are many on the market in different price ranges. Mike.
