While it is a popular request, I suspect there are a few reasons this
has not made it to the top of the stack for those who have the knowledge.

a) There are two types of people in the world, the archivers and the
non-archivers. I personally have very little desire to see shows again
once I have seen them. There are other people who love it a lot and
build giant walls of recorded videos in their houses. So for me, the
answer is normally just to get more disk space for stuff I haven't
seen. Like many, I'm looking to watch less TV -- the right TV -- rather
than build up a giant archive of stuff I will watch when I get around to
it. There is always 200gb of stuff in my boxes right now to watch,
who needs more?

b) For those who like to archive, and just want to watch it again on
their MythTV box, archiving is pretty simple, just about any dvd burning
tool will do the job.

c) So now you are left with liking to archive but wanting to play it
on a standard DVD player. Many of us would rather just put another
cheap fontend there instead of having a TV without one. I mean, once
you have an HDVR, a TV without one seems close to useless -- though I
guess you can indeed watch DVDs on it.

This however is pretty wasteful. DVDs need 720x480 but recording TV
is wasteful at that resolution since OTA NTSC just can't deliver it.
OTA HD can deliver it but then you're scaling down to get a DVD.
You get about 2 hours on a DVD in native format, you can have 5 hours
of MP4s on the same DVD.

And people who don't have Myth can still play the raw mp2s on computers
if not on DVD players.

d) So finally, what do you need those DVDs for? Perhaps to show a program
to a friend outside your house? To impress your mom? Useful, but just
not so high up the list. There are many other features that are easier
to do and do more for you.
