I'm looking to move my combo front/backend AMD64 machine to become only backend and transcoder, etc, etc. As such, I want to slap together a fast machine using a microATX Mobo (I'm looking at maybe a D.Vine 5 HTPC Case by Ahanix, or another smaller SilverStone Lascala SST-LC11 HTPC ). It can be Intel or AMD cpu (the faster the better, it will be handling HDTV decoding). I'm looking for optical and coax output (either on board, or via a plug-in slot panel ) . Suggestions on any and every component.I am working on something for this right now. My current system sounds like a jet engine after watching HDTV for about half an hour (CPU fan starts spinning faster and faster trying to keep the poor CPU cool :-( ). After I'm finished watching an hour show (40 minutes) I give it a break so the fan can slow down and I can hear again.
My new project isn't ready yet, but if everything goes according to plan I will have exactly what you are looking for. I will post another message soon with parts list and instructions. What kind of HDTV output are you looking for, DVI or component (or other)?

I currently have two video cards, one an AGP ATI Radeon 9600 w/ component dongle, and a PCIe 6600GT with a component dongle. However, currently I convert the VGA to component with an Audio Authority 9A60.
