The 'nvidia.ko' module has to be recompiled for every kernel change.
The 'easy way' is to just re-run the installer.
If you don't have that http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html has 'em.
The slightly more difficult way is to --extract-only the Nvidia
package you got above, go to {nvidia package version}usr/src/nv and type
'make install'.
It will just compile and install the kernel module. (It does need to
find the kernel headers though), instead of re-installing the entire kit.
I'm happly running the latest 8178 on 2.6.15.1
