Dawn and Marsha

The "Whole " thing does not soak off. You break the acetone proof sealer
with a file, soak for about 10 min and the color slide off with a pusher.
If you want to remove it all you have to soak for another 15 to 20 min. So
you would soak, do a basic manicure including light buffing. Then base coat
the out growth, and then polish coats 7 sealer. I am thinking 45 to 60 min
and the price of a fill. I borrowed a (DVD)

I think this is a "nitch" market. For that person who wants Something but
not AC or permanent gels. We have had calls to our Salon asking for it
because "There is NO FILING on top of the natural nail." That is how they
have seen it advertised. I think someone is just using a buffer and the
client does not know that buffers can damage if misused as well. I am in the
northwest suburbs of Chicago and people have seen this advertised downtown
and are looking for it out here. Enough calls that the owner asked me to
look into it. OPI is doing a blast of Education around here so it must be
Axxium people are asking about. I would say the one good thing is they are
using their biggest selling polish names for color and are supposed to be
bringing out more. I thing I would do a trial run on Salon Employees before
putting it on the menu.

In THIS Market????? I would run a special, the initial full set for the
price for the price of a fill. The money is made on the repeat booking not
the full set. Everyone is looking for a bargain. If with practice I could
do a fill faster than an AC fill I would charge less as well. Just keeping
them coming back.

Marsha , I havent used the soakables. Some of this seems like a good idea
but the practacle part stinks. Most of the people that have natural nails
do not want any artifical enhancement they just want polish to stay
forever<LOL> The whole time factor of soaking ??? where does that fit in.
They dont want to come early and sit to do it. And if you dont have the soak
off kind the whole filing thing is as much work as a fill. Which takes
more time and what to charge for that. OH in a perfect world somewhere.....

I have been using gel polish for about 4 years, Dawn. My concern is with the
soakable OPI product. We were instructed to do our fill (I do only gels)
THEN apply 2 coats (one thin & one medium) of clear soakable gel base before
applying the soakable polish. I don't know if the soakable gel polish will
adhere properly to my Brisa (non-soakable) builder gel. I'll test it on
myself. Actually, the only reason I would use it on a gel wearer would be
because they want the OPI polish color! I have it on myself right now....I
wish I would have thought to skip the soakable gel base when I did my own.
Thanks for the reply!!

Marsha,
I get $10. extra on gel or Acrylic for gel polish. Toes, too 10 extra. It
really does not take anymore time, you are charging for time knowledge and
product. On acrylic or gel, do your regular fill, you get to the finish
file and DO NOT buff, Gel needs a rough not shinny surface to adhere. just
dust the nails and apply gel polish one finger at a time back and forth
under the light Next a coat of IBD's Intense seal and cure for 3 min. DONE.

The only time you would have to apply clear gel first is on natural nails as
a base to get the gel polish to adhere. That is usually only 1 coat. As for
top coat if you are using a sealer like Intense seal that is it, nothing
else needed. You would only need two coats of gel-polish if the color is
too sheer for what you want. The sealer stays shinny and there should be no
need for top coat of any kind. DO you have someone Family or friend that
you can play and practice on?
It is great and there is no way to smudge anything.
Good luck

I have not been working for the past month and a half, Angie. I took the
class and the suggestion from the educator, I believe, was $30-$40. I will
charge $30 which is $10 more than my basic manicure. I haven't experimented
with them yet, so I don't know if you must follow their directions exactly.
The process seems very time consuming if they are used over gel enhancements
and I don't know if it's worth it. After the gel fill, you apply the gel
polish using the same method as for natural nails. (2 clear gel coats, at
least 2 polish coats, & topcoat) It's the 2 additional clear gel coats that
is the problem and I don't know if they are really needed. Anybody else
know?

Marsha,

Would you mind sharing how much you charge to apply the gel polish on
natural nails, toenails, and over gel or ac? I have just got some in and I
have no idea what to charge.

Shannon....I recently took the OPI Axxium Gel class, mostly because they
demo'd their soak off gel polishes which just came out. (I am a Brisa user)
I am very impressed with their gel polish (soakable). What I learned with
their soakable gel is that you must use clear soakable gel as the first
layer on the natural nail. Their soakable gel does not strengthen natural
nails. If your natural nails are weak they need to be filed to 1/8" length
or they are subject to break. If your nails are strong, then you can wear
them longer. I am impressed with the fact that the topcoat on my nails is
still shiney, showing no wear or fine scratches, after more than 2 weeks. I
haven't tried any other manufacturers soakable gel polish to date. I want to
be able to offer my clients their favorite OPI polish colors in gel! You can
certainly file off this gel polish by hand....and gel is much easier to file
away than is acrylic!

Hi everyone,

One more question on gels (I know there has been a lot of talk on these.
Sorry) I am a new tech (less than 1 year) I am still learning acrylics and
want to learn gel. I have heard about the soakable gels. Does anyone know if
the Brisa system is soakable or do you have to efile. I have never taken a
class on efiles so until I do I would feel more comfortable learning by hand
filing and soaking off. Thanks.

 Melody,

As far as the reflexology, no you will not learn by a book. I would try to
find a school nearby you that you could take the course. If there is no one
around you I do know they have reflexology through distance learning where
they send you tapes to learn off of. You could also find a reflexologist and
get a session just to see what the pressure is and how their technique is.
Any more questions please email me privately as I do not want to get off
topic and get in trouble with the group :)
