Thanks for all the info guys. I will be sure to pass all this along to the new
girl. This is also great for future reference if I ever decide to become a
booth renter:)

Ahhhh! BUT! If the receptionist is responsible for collecting monies
from the clients, then it makes sense for the salon to require each IC to pay
the receptionist individually. That way, when it comes to proving IC vs.
Employee, it shows that each IC paid the receptionist for her services, so they
side step the "salon collected the money" issue.

It makes sense. I don't think this is a particularly bad deal or set
up. I just don't know if this salon is going to provide this tech with a steady
stream of new clients and an opportunity to build her clientelle and hone her
skills?

All we know (as off as far as I've read) is what the deal is, we don't
have any details about this salon's contract.

The same old story. The owner wants the best of both worlds.
I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong and I am sure if it-lol-
if she is an independent contractor, shouldn't SHE be giving THEM the 35%???
So it seems they want to take payment from the client and pay her?
IF she is truly an IC, she should have the choice of whether or not
to accept credit cards.
It is my personal feeling that the receptionist's fee should be
included in that 35%.
What REALLY scares me are these UNKNOWN fees that will crop up. What
other fees are they talking about? They are waiving them because she is new?
I would not take on an "IC" with all the mystery shrouded in it. It
sounds like the owners do not really know what they are doing.
I think she would be better off as an employee for the time being.
It would not surprise me to learn that these owners will then dictate
what products they want her to use: that she will not be able to retail and
hours she will be given. I am just getting a bad feeling with this.

Hey everyone. Question for those that have been in the industry. I
was talking to a new nail tech fresh from school. She was telling me she got a
job as an independent contractor for a brand new salon. She can use their
tables, towels, etc... but has to use her own lotion, cuticle oils,
implements,etc.. They are giving her 65% and they are taking 35% BUT then they
are charging her $100.00 a month for a receptionist fee AND charging her to use
their credit card machine AND said that in a few months they are reinstating
other fees they are waiving because she is new. I told her that was a rip off.
What are everyone's thoughts on this? I just want her to be treated fair since
she is new and does not know any different.
