Nicole.. I feel for you also.. I am also a non-confrontational type.. 
I used a completely different method of losing the problem children..

When they went to book their next appointment I would make sure they 
could not see my book..
"what works for you? Thurs 15th 4p? oh sorry I have someone booked 
there.. what else?? Fri 16th 3p? oh sorry a standing there.."  and 
let that go on for a bit and then say, "let me look more at my 
schedule and I will call you tomorrow" and just string her along like 
that.. at some point she will just move along to the salon down the 
street all by herself
