Well Jill, I could say OUCH, but you are sooooo right. I was shampooing my area carpets outside today thinking about her. And the one thing that ticked me off is that she got a tattoo. I do not have tattoos, but I know they are expensive. So if she can afford a tattoo, she can afford me. I really like this kid. I WANT her to have healthy nails. I do not want to be her backup. I am sure all of us have clients that come in and say, "I know you are going to yell at me..." Huh? I have never yelled at a client!!!! I tell them if they pick nails off, I make more money. Now I do not WANT to make more money this way. I want them to keep their nails healthy. I tell them I would never yell at them for putting extra money in my bank account! Anyway, thanks for the words of wisdom. Now I hope you practice what you preach because one of the techs you mentioned will give sound advice, but does not herself!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She will recognize herself. ;-)

Stupid people bother me & she would definitely fall into this category. Obviously she CAN afford you, since she winds up in your chair everytime her nails are a disaster. Life is all about choices. People choose to buy cigarettes, alcohol, & lottery tickets, but they cry poor when it comes to buying life, health, & disability insurance to provide for their loved ones when their inevitable accident and/or death occurs. You see their photos taped to the jars that sit on the counter at the local convenience stores where they want you to donate your money to help them out of their misfortune. It's the same thing with this chick and her nails. I view this much like a corrective hair color procedure with a stylist because you are definitely using your time and expertise to correct her botched up nail job. Corrective color costs more in a salon & you should also charge more, too. Maybe by providing a tiered pricing structure charging more for corrective work and less for a typical bi- weekly fill, she'd feel as if she was getting a better deal with you. Can you imagine a hair stylist repeatedly taking back a client who's hair was routinely fried by another salon and NOT charging this client more? Remember.... doing nails is our business, not our charity! In any case, you should not feel sorry for her. She chose to give her business (i.e. money) to these other "salons" and didn't lose any sleep over the fact that she was essentially taking money (i.e. business) away from you. We've all heard the AA definition of insanity is "doing the same things over and over again, yet expecting different results". Since this has become a pattern for the both of you (with her bouncing back to you to fix the damage and you repairing her nails only for her to go back to these butchers) you are participating in her insanity. It's time to play hardball with this flake and stop this cycle for the both of you! Do the math for her and break it down into what it costs weekly for her to come get a fill (2 week fills= $30, so that would mean it costs her $15 per week; 3 week fills= $10 per week, etc.) I'm betting that she wastes more money on other stupid stuff, so she just needs to work your nail service into her budget and shut up. Either she values your services or she doesn't. That's it in a nutshell. Be gentle, yet firm. Let her know that you can no longer tolerate fixing her mess and either she commits to you or she commits to them. Or she can choose to not get her nails done at all, which sounds preferable to having them sliced and diced. OMG........I sound as if I'm channelling Maggie Franklin or Rebecca "Ask the Manicurist" Seals!
