My understanding from the distributors is that nail products sit on the shelf
and don't really move. Then you have the nail pros saying I hate going to the
store they never have what I want. So most either order online, via catalog,
or through a sales rep. Different areas of the country seem to vary with what
and who they carry, even different areas of a state can vary!

Thanks for sharing your perspective, Holly! OPI is just about the only company
left standing in my corner of the world. I don't know which came first, the
chicken or the egg but there is less and less for nail techs on the shelves of
both our supply houses. Is it because of internet sales interfering or because
there is too much to choose from, so pare it down to a couple of manufacturers?
Everyone is suffering from the economy, I suppose.

Some companies do train the educators extensively to educate, with no training
on sales. Sometimes it isn't about what company they rep it is about the
person teaching the class. Same as some people in the salon are passionate, to
some its a job, and to others they are so over it and just don't know how to
move on. Don't give up on attending classes, that's what makes them so hard to
find. If you found a class more about sales and not enough about technique
write the company, you can't fix something if you don't know it's broken ;o)

Funny I was an educator for EZ Flow for 2 years and when people tell me how
great it must of been I tell them...No not really I was basicly a glorified
sales person not really an educator per say...They would send me out to schools
and show students how to do tricks with the products and sell kits making sure
that the schools had enough of their products and if not that they needed to up
their orders....in order to become an educator I had a 4 day course and WHALA I
was an educator!

The only real purk out of the deal was I got 50% off all my products and a
vacation away from work and home for 4 days...Oh and I got to drive to Lake
Havasue to have those students jack my products from my kit! LOL

All in all it was a great learning experience and now I can say I was an
educator on my resume! :)

Non product related educators are definately where it's at! And I don't know
that I've had a class with a small company......I probably have but......oh, I
just remembered! A company called maybe Premiere or Premium came to Missoula to
teach us about their acrylic product. I may have still been in
school....1997ish. I think they have disappeared. I haven't seen them around
for a long time. But you are right about small companies. That educator stayed
here for 2 days and we went to class at least 6 hours on both days. I learned
lots!

think we have all been thru it Marsha, frustrating. I think the smaller
companies and the non product related educators are the best classes!!!!!!!
