Just to play Devil's Advocate, I use a number of different products in my salon. Shellac for French only (it's just not cost effective to use for colors and it's the easiest way to do a French) Star ECO and YN ManiQ with glitter or mixed with polish. We call the service a Magic Manicure. While the client may call and ask for Shellac, we tell them that our Magic Manicure is a "similar" service. I really don't think that is misleading, nor do I think our other products are imposters and bottom line, even if you do educate the client, in their mind they are still getting Shellac.

New client came in tonight, she called 2 weeks ago to get in to take off her "shellac" she had put on the week prior, been busy so she had a 3 week "shellac" outgrowth. Thinking "Shellac" is "shellac", I book her for an hour. She comes in, lovely lady, thanking me that she found someone so much closer to home :). Oil/Acetone/Foil wrap her up, 10 minutes pass, I take off the pinky.....not easily scrapping off, hmmm, put the foil pack back on for another 5 minutes. Lets just say, this process, plus filing off the product took 20+ minutes.

Fast forward to application....hmmm...the salon she went to for "shellac" only had the white for her french in a bottle with a brush......hmmmm SHELLAC IMPOSTER!!! I love how these non-standard salons continually ruin our industry reputation passing off false information/products continually. We need to find a way to become a united front and knock these undesirables off their butts and out of business!
